Trivial facts, part 1

If you pile up all the reels Erkki Ala-Könni archived here in the Folklife Archives, they would make up a huge tower!

In the archive there are 5347 reels. Piled on top of each other they make 107 meters. Below you can see how this pile relates to two buildings in Finland, our home town’s Näsinneula tower and one of our “national symbols”, the Stadium tower in Helsinki. The drawing is not exactly to scale though.. Internationally, the pile of reels would come very close the top of Kheops pyramid.

 

The tower of reel tapes
