Congratulations Eija!

A historical moment took place at the Folklife archives earlier this week. The amanuensis Eija Kukkurainen  - who has been working at the archive since 1973 and also listening and indexing the AK-collection from the reel #1 onwards – was happy to announce that she had finally listened and indexed the very last reel (#5347) at the AK-collection! So, Eija is now the only person in the world that has listened the every single reel in AK-collection since Erkki Ala-Könni.

The staff celebrated the special moment by drinking coffee and eating the delicious cake that Eija had prepared.

The blog hits 1000 readers!

We are glad to announce that people who read this blog really exist! The blog statistics clearly show that there must be at least one person with refresh button and lots of time in his/her hands.

Project diary, week 17 (part 2)

The Jukebox Jury of Historical Recordings (JJHR)

Before our trip to the ARSC-conference in Milwaukee (which will be fully covered here shortly) we had a meeting with our steering group concerning the first CD, ready for review. In the meeting we quite thoroughly discussed about every single performance of the first release.

To our surprise in few cases the opinions of the members of the steering group were quite scattered. We were quite amazed

On the 24th day of April we had the second meeting with our steering group. To our delight most of the members of the group were able to attend and that is really remarkable because they are really busy people. Only one member didn’t make it due to a trouble with his car; the belt of the generator snapped
